free, free, free: >> one of the nicest historically wise performance ensembles in the world, europa galante (pictured), order give a concert with their leader, violinist fabio biondi, on wednesday (april 16, 8 p.m.) at the library of congress. it is now impossible to find a ticket, but a few seats may be made available the night of the concert: swagger up early.

>> An alternative for Wednesday evening (April 16, 7:30 p.m.) is the final Musicians from Marlboro concert at the Freer Gallery of Art. Six musicians from the Marlboro Festival, including violist Kim Kashkashian, will perform music by Britten, Mozart, and Dvo?ák. Reserve a seat through Ticketmaster or show up one hour before the concert when tickets are distributed.

>> The early music week at the Library of Congress continues on Thursday (April 17, 8 p.m.) with a free recital by violinist John Holloway, cellist Jaap ter Linden, and harpsichordist Lars Ulrik Mortensen. The program is a survey of Baroque masters including Veracini, Vivaldi, Leclair, Corelli, Couperin, and others.

>> On Friday (April 18, 8 p.m.) the Pavel Haas Quartet will also play a free concert at the Library of Congress, including music by Dvo?ák, Smetana, and the group’s namesake.

>> On Sunday (April 20, 5 p.m.) organist David Hurd will give a free recital at Washington National Cathedral.

>> The duo MarcOlivia will perform with pianist Gregory Sioles on Sunday (April 20, 4 p.m.) at the Phillips Collection. As always, the concert is free, but admission to the museum is not.

>> The Davidson Fine Arts Chorale will also give a free concert on Sunday (April 20, 6:30 p.m.) at the National Gallery of Art.

GOOD BUT NOT FREE: >> The Emerson String Quartet will perform on Wednesday (April 16, 8 p.m.) at the Music Center at Strathmore, sponsored by Washington Performing Arts Society. Pianist Wu Han will join them for Schumann’s op. 44 piano quintet.

>> The new ensemble called City Choir of Washington will give a performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, one of the monuments of music history, on Thursday (April 17, 8 p.m.) in the Music Center at Strathmore.
